I’ve been making some changes to my template based on some suggestions in a recent review on Ask And Ye Shall Receive. I’d love any opinions regarding the changes (two sidebars down to one) as well as any further suggestions to make my site as elegant as possible - elegance, as always, being my goal. Also, if there’s anyone who knows how I can add a subtitle under the site name (in CSS), could you please give me an e-mail shout? Thanks for any feedback.

The reason I’m pro-dual sidebars is that I think it’s unlikely that anyone will scroll waaaaay down there to the bottom. And you do have a ton of stuff in the sidebar.

Hey Chris, I just read the review and I’m thrilled to see that you’ve said ‘buh-bye’ to the three column format. I love your page, I come here to see your pics, listen to your music and occasionally feel a bit like a mental midget, but hey, it’s all good. I’ve long been a bit disgruntled by the load time of your page, but since it’s your page, I’ve kept those thoughts to myself. I’ll read no matter how long it takes to load. I’ve liked you since that beautiful picture of Sinead in Greece.
Anywho, you can’t get a sub-title under you title in CSS… that has to happen in the HTML portion of your page (if WP has such a thing). Look for the <h2 class=title>Put your stuff here </h2>. If it’s PHP, then honey pie, you’re on your own because I’m not there yet. If it’s XML I might be able to help. Oh and if the html I tossed doesn’t compute in WP it’s Put your stuff here.
Drop me an email if all of that is clear as mud. I’m tired and just finished a glass of wine.
Also, I don’t mind the ‘read more’ at all. I generally know in the first paragraph of two if I’m going to want to click that bothersome mouse button… I usually do.

Yep, I’m a fan of two, versus three, columns. Nice change.

Looking gorgeous, babe. I am biased bc ALL my websites/blogs are two column format. I say do what speaks to ya. If you are digging this format, awesome. If you end up feeling like three columns is more you, you know that we will still be hanging around reading all your rocking posts. Either way, good on you for trying out new things.

I liked the two sidebars for the same ’scroll down’ reasons as Nichole and I would love to put two on my site if I could only figure out how. (Has Harlekwin done that post yet??) Then again I don’t have a load time problem as I’m on ADSL2 with Himself’s business so….
The only problem I initially had with ‘read more’ was that I would start the music, hit read more and then lose the music and have to start again. Figured it out though ….:-) a bit dim sometimes.

I LIKE the three columns - but I agree, I’m not keen on the read more thing. Occasionally, I think you’ve used it to really good effect - like on the science tuesday where you might have a really powerful opening couple of paras AND the post is really long. Sometimes I’m interested in the science and sometimes not so much, so the read more is appreciated. Otherwise. No.

I would suggest putting most of your links on a separate blog page, the way you’ve done with your header links above, and then just putting a tab up there that says “links”. that would significantly reduce the length of your sidebar. You could also consider posting fewer blogs on a page, with a next/back option. I think that allows people to focus in more on one specific post without needing the read more link. It will also let your page load faster. The

the more images, the slower it will load. that’s why i would also lose the images in your sidebar.
Move archives up. The technorati tag cloud, free music, elbows, all those things below elbows are gadgets that fetch content off of other sites, and will significantly slow your page down, so I’d consider losing/moving them.
